Our Mission

Ella’s Bond is a non-profit organization whose mission is to prevent the children of incarcerated parents from being overlooked throughout the process by providing them with the necessary services to process the loss of a support role due to incarceration and promote growth. Also, to provide cash bail assistance to incarcerated parents to eliminate the immediate separation from dependents while awaiting trial.

Mass incarceration has and continues to tear families apart, and parental incarceration is a painful experience that many children throughout the United States have to navigate alone.

Ella’s Bond’s goal is to help families navigate this painful experience while establishing healthy relationship-building tools throughout the separation. Additionally, we help children evolve throughout the process and after by providing long-term support to prevent falling into a generational cycle of incarceration and ongoing trauma.

Ella’s Bond believes in providing long-term support to the children of incarcerated family members by promoting healthy relationship-building tools and a positive community of supportive services to promote efficient growth.

We believe in providing services to both the parent and child to provide a well-rounded approach and prevent the separation of families during and after periods of incarceration. We allow children of incarcerated parents to engage with children in similar situations to build a community of peer support.

Our goal is to provide these children with a loving and caring environment where they know they genuinely matter. In addition, we surround them with a vital community of peer and adult mentors who promote their present and future growth and advancement within society.

Our Vision

We envision a nation where the children of incarcerated parents are not left alone to process the removal of a support role. Instead, they are provided with the tools to navigate and be successful in a difficult situation. We also envision a society where vital parent offenders do not have to remain in prison simply because they do not have the funds to re-enter society while they await trial.

Our Story

Ella’s Bond was created based on the values of Earlene Spears. A mother and grandmother who navigated her family and others throughout incarcerated periods. The criminal justice system forgets there are individuals other than the defendant processing the situation and trying to come to terms with the outcome. A child lacks the fundamentals to properly understand the problem and often is required to process it alone; there is nowhere to turn for the necessary assistance.
